It is human nature to put things and ideas into boxes, and this leads to a tendency to think in linear terms. This then leads to "if-then" logic, to judgements, or to "either-or" distinctions.
Consequently, we refer to an area in our system in which a full flow cannot occur as a blockage. This confirms our belief that there are worse paths in life that prevent us from developing and growing, and that there are better paths that allow us to grow and develop more quickly. If we do this instead of that, we might become a better person, or it might allow us to reach our full potential (faster). And if we do the other, the potential is blocked and thus growth is limited.
So, just imagine changing your perspective and renaming a blockage into "potential." What would that do to you, to the context of the situation, to the other person?
